Doorstep Challenge

Almost every household on the Cowlersley housing estate took part in Doorstep Challenge, a massive photography project about people and what they are proud of.

The People’s Artist Kate Genever and photographer Jonathan Turner quite literally landed on people’s doorsteps, looking to take one photograph to represent each and every home. Each resident was asked to choose a subject for the photo that would most successfully sum up what was important and special to him or her. Some chose their family or the house itself, while others chose their special collections or their most treasured items.

A beautiful collection of over 180 photographs has been produced, revealing the kind of things you might never ordinarily know about your neighbours.

Everyone who took part in the project received a large copy of their own photograph and a selection of large photographs have been shown at the community centre and at the Tolson Museum in Huddersfield.
