journeys towards health title
 
In 2006 Open Art completed Journeys Towards Health which was a two year integrated arts programme delivered as part of North Kirklees PCT’s capital development of 4 new primary care centres in Dewsbury, Batley, Cleckheaton and Ravensthorpe and 1 new intermediate care centre in Cleckheaton.

The programme was funded with a 1% for art allocation from the scheme’s capital finance.

The two primary artists on the scheme, Claire Parr and Lee Brewster, worked closely with the PCT and the private sector partner, Amec, to:
  • Create interior schemes that improve the patient and staff experience and push expectations of NHS buildings

  • Create bespoke artworks that respond to the needs of the health practitioners delivering services and patients who will use the buildings

  • Provide opportunities for arts students at Dewsbury College to work to a professional brief and create artworks for the new health centres

A range of textiles artworks, donated by the Kirklees based Textiles Arts Group (TAG), can also be found throughout the buildings.
